The Cholla Camground is located in the Tonto National Forest just outside Globe, Arizona and is open all year round. All tent and RV sites have beautiful desert landscape views. Many sites also overlook Roosevelt Lake, although, because the campground is a distance away from the lake, if the water happens to be low the lake will not be visible. Water levels in Roosevelt Lake are dependent on the weather and on how much water the nearby city of Phoenix is using at that time.

Boating, fishing, bird watching, hiking, water skiing, and sailing are all available nearby. Running water, flush toilets, and hot showers are all available at the Cholla Campground itself. The Cholla Campground is the largest solar powered campground in the United States. Sites cost $10 to $14 a night and there is a 14-night maximum stay per year.

Deer Creek campground is a tent only campground located in a Ponderosa Pine forest in a narrow canyon just outside Alpine, Arizona. The Campground is part of the Apache National Forest, and is open from May through October. Only 6 tent-only campsites are available, but they are worth the extra effort to get to them. The campsites are in the most rustic area along the East Fork of the Black River, and the camping is primitive, with vault toilets, running cold water, but no hot showers.

The Black River is more of a stream than a river, and is pristine and very beautiful. As you look out between the canyon walls, you have beautiful views of the narrow canyon floor often dotted with meadow like areas and beautiful tall ponderosa pine. Although the campsites are set back from the river to protect it, there is easy access for fishing and wading.
