What would you eat if you were lost in the wilderness and didn’t have any food ? You might never need to know, but naturalist Alan Hall’s book The Wild Food Trail Guide makes for fun reading anyway, especially if you love to hike, backpack, and go camping. Many of the plants we call weeds are actually edible and were brought here by our ancestors who at one time cultivated them for food.
Later these plants naturalized and spread through the wild. Hall guides the reader through safely identifying and harvesting each plant, and also gives suggestions for more than 25 uses for the plants, from salads, to jams and jellies, to pies, to soups and greens. The Wild Food Trail Guide is a great book to take along camping or just to read for the fun of it. The book is available at Amazon.com for $16.99.
