Many areas are finding that campers from all walks of life are hitting the shores of lakes and the dirt of hiking trails. With the economy doing so poorly, camping has become the vacation option of the year. Some areas are boasting double the bookings for cabins and campground areas over last year’s numbers, as people who have never camped before, or those who have not camped in years, are coming into the wilderness.

Some areas, such as those at Chester Frost, Tennessee, are seeing more visitors than ever. Although rental prices are rising, people are more interested in coming out. There are reports of outdoor equipment sales growing by 26 percent during the first quarter. Overnight camping has seen a growth of 18.5 percent in some areas.
