To be fair to all backpackers, the Grand Canyon National Park has changed the system for getting blackcountry permits. This will be effective starting February 1, 2010 where only written requests for backcounty permits which were filed four months in advance of trips will be considered. Requests can be sent by fax, mail, or hand delivery by 5 pm of any day. This new procedure aims to set aside walk-in applicants who get immediate consideration over the ones which file them months in advance.
