When it comes to camping and going outdoors, bears are normally a problem. While the immediate solution to this problem is to run, people over at the Sequoia National Park are studying various methods to scare them away. These aversive conditioning tactics include shooting with rubber slugs, using slingshots, and throwing rocks.

Studies have shown that they have a long way to go. Apparently, scaring of a bear is not that simple. Aversive conditioning did reduce the frequency at how bears would approach humans but it did not resolve the problem. In short, the conflict between bears and humans still exists but at a lower rate and hopefully, studying the aversive conditioning approach thoroughly can help provide improved results soon.
